Audi TT Quattro 2002 overheating indicationap

I have an Audi TT Quatro, two turbo 4 cyl.

When climbing up a mountain, the gauge starts heading towards overheat.

One thing that helps is turning on the AC, but recently that hasn’t helped.

Mechanic says, it’s mostlikely the gauge, but why would the gauge only increase temp indications when going up hills? Level no issue.

SO far, replaces water pump, thermostat, fan thermostat.

Mechanic claims nothing wrong with 18 year old radiator, and coolant in recovery bottle never boils or escapes.

NOW WHAT?

All serviced less than a year ago.

Coolant in recovery bottle looks fresh, and certainly far from boiling, thermometer shows 167F.

Electrical specialist is supposed to look at it today. If he can’t fix it, I’m thinking of a radiator shop, since they deal with these issues daily.

Thanks for thoughts!

Yup, it’s not looking good for the radiator.

I hope it’s not an expensive fix or bigger engine problems.

Audi tt back in that time period where known to have instrsument cluster failure .

My fuel gauge went south.

Here what I what I would do.

After climbing a hill or when the symptom come up. Pop the hood and see if u can measure the temperature before and after.

And notice any difference.

If there is difference then there a problem with the cooling system.

If it at the almost at the same temperature then you know it the instrument cluster.

Coolant temperature is meant to be at 90 degree Celsius.

Good luck

Thanks, and makes the most sense.

Sounds like it’s time to search for a new mechanic.

Since almost everything is controlled by computers in that Audi, does it have any codes when you scan it?

Your problem is the vehicle overheats when under load. When was the last time you changed your coolant & flushed the radiator?

@inthrustwetrust
What do you fly, or work on with thrust?

Codes showed normal.
Some electronic guru is due today at noon to look at ECU.
Hoping this finds the fix, I really like the car and don’t want to get rid of it. Keep it as a spare. Driving topless is a kick and practical nearly all year here in So Cali.
