Brakes grind in reverse

Hello. I have a 2018 Honda Civic Hatchback with 58k miles. The brakes make grinding noise and occasionally squeak but only when I go in reverse. It is completely fine going forward. Are my brakes wearing out?

Are my brakes wearing out?

Why not examine them and find out?

I'm not picking up anything.

I have taken it to a place and they're all at 7mm and they said it's fine but just loud. It never did this before though so should I still be concerned?

Sometimes pad retainer springs can make such noise.  Happened to my 2012 accord. After removing them, noise disappeared.

I’ve been hearing anecdotal evidence that brakes from various new makes and models are squeaking more these days. Toyota, Mercedes, Porsche, Honda, and even more. Porsche even made a PR video about it: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=fUNHb9O52WQ

Take it for what it is worth. None of my 20+ year old cars have squeaked like that before. I have heard some modern cars with a weird squeak.

A grind on the other hand is something different. It might not be the brakes, but the wheel hub bearing. IIRC, there was a case with the previous generation RAV4 having grinding rear bearings. Not sure how pervasive it was.
