I don’t think it’s a good idea to buy a vehicle that has no title. No title can be a red flag for who knows what such as a stolen car, salvage title, a flood vehicle. Now maybe the seller lost or misplaced the title, too, but they should get a duplicate in that case.
Also, a title declares the vehicle’s legal owner. If you buy a car without a title, it’s always possible someone who possesses the title can claim ownership even though you’ve paid for the vehicle. And then in order to register the car in your state, you’ll need the title to prove that you are the legal owner of the car.
So, it’s just best to buy a vehicle with the title, and a clean title at that!
Maybe just maybe get the VIN and go check with the registration office and see what they find on it? But that's just an idea.
