Hi Scotty, im a big fan of your channel.
i was looking at two 2009 rav4’s with 100k miles. One was running great but had engine misfire codes pending in 3 cylinders. Asking price $10,400. All oil changes were recorded on the carfax.
the other Rav had a code for oxygen sensor voltage together with an ECM code. This one was also running lean, long term trim was about 6%. Asking for this one was $8.5k
are these codes reason to stay away from these cars or buy them anyways. What do you think! Thanks!
Dealer - NO
Carfax - NO
Definitely a BIG NO to both. Just as @mmj said if it wasn't something ugly the owners would fix it and drive it themselves. And Carfax; that's the last thing I would base my purchase off of.
why would you buy somebody's problem?
There must be an ugly reason why the owners aren't getting it fixed.
Both cars were from dealers and neither car had a check engine light on. So I think they didn’t even realize these codes were pending
Being from dealerships makes it even worse. Given the history of dealerships (actually stealerships) they definitely knew the problems existed.
an ECM code? That sounds nasty. Do you remember what it was?
