Bypass Filtration system for diesels

What are your views on a bypass filtration system? I have a 2008 Dodge (Mercedes) 3.0L turbo diesel (Sprinter Van) and the oil gets really contaminated with soot, soon after I change the oil.  Would such a bypass system that filters down to two microns be worth the expense. AMSOIL sells these systems as well as a couple others.

Eh, I wouldn’t.  It’s pretty normal for diesel oil to blacken up quickly after a change and generally is not harmful and does not indicate anything amiss.  I suppose a secondary oil filtration system might extend your oil life a little bit.  But if you are using a proper oil and filter and changing them on time (and good quality fuel and changing the fuel filter on time) I doubt there’s much to be gained.  Besides, you’re adding complexity and things that can break.

Amzoil makes good diesel oil, but I’d probably skip any add-on hardware.
