C6 Corvette Transmission

I’m looking at buying a C6 Corvette and am trying to decide between an Automatic and Manual transmission. The ones in my price range have high mileage, and I am worried about a potentially expensive repair, especially if the car has been driven hard. Do you think there would be a significant difference in the reliability/ cost of repair for either option? Would the manual be significantly cheaper if i need work done on it? If I ever took the car to the track would this be too much for an old automatic transmission to handle? Thanks for any thoughts on this, as I am pretty torn between the two.

I need to phone a friend for this one: @Mod_Man

Which year and trim (base, grand sport, Z06, ZR1 - although the latter 2 were strictly manual)?

Manuals are almost always cheaper to repair because there are a lot less moving parts. However, you can also beef up an automatic and make it just as reliable. The biggest upside to the auto is it will run consistent times whereas a manual will depend on your shifting ability.

I have a 2013 ZR1 (manual only) that is a blast to drive along curvy back roads, but for straight line speed on a track I run my automatic cars for better, more consistent launches.

Some say if it isn't a manual then it isn't a true sports car. Most of those guys are running slower than the autos too. I personally use the best tool for the job.

If you are thinking weekend cruiser, get the manual. If you want the best track times, get the auto and tune it for the 1/8 or 1/4 mile.

Because the torque tube makes working on the clutch a little more involved in the C6. It's doable, but.... even though, I still prefer manuals.
