1998 Toyota tacoma 2.4l automatic. Recently had the engine replaced. The shop guys that replaced it told me the engine has around 165,000 miles on it. The problem started when I tried to start her up she started cranking but would not start whatsoever. I've been informed that it can't be the starter otherwise it wouldn't crank. It can't possibly be the battery either I replaced that recently too. I called my sensei up(my mechanic neighbor that helps me and teaches me things every now and then) and he told me to put a little bit of gas into the throttle body and see if it starts then. He told me that if it starts after doing that then the problem is fuel injectors related or something like that. I found it a strange thing to do so I spritzed some gas into the throttle body and tried to start her up. Still it's a no go. The next day I called sensei up again and asked him to check the truck out in person. He sprayed carby cleaner into the air intake and tried to start her up, when he saw that it still wouldn't start he took out his multimeter and started testing out the fuses. The efi fuse (15a) was bad and he replaced it with the spare fuse (25a) that was in the fuse box lid. We tried starting the the truck again and there you go she was running again. He then told me to get the correct fuse to replace it and luckily I have a jar full of various fuses. So I put in the correct fuse (15a) and thought that was the end of it. The next day as i was driving the check engine light came on. I put in my Fixd obd scanner and got engine code P0340 Definition: Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction. I popped the hood open and checked the sensor in question, the plastic that houses the plug of the sensor was shattered and the metal clip bits that connect onto the port of the engine were all messed up. I made the mistake of thinking that I could worry about it later, and then today on my way to work it happened again. The truck turned off as I was driving, naturally I checked the battery terminals 1st, they were fine. I checked the fuses and the efi fuse was blown again, luckily I had my spare fuses jar on me so I replaced the fuse and thought I could be on my merry way but noooo. I drove a few feet and it happened again. I replaced the fuse again and it got blown again as well as the 2 others after that. Now my truck is stuck in some parking lot cuz I have no means of moving her at the moment. I think it's the camshaft position sensor but I'm not completely certain. I called sensei again and he said that it could be the sensor in question or theres a possibility of faulty wiring elsewhere in the truck. Can a bad camshaft position sensor blow through fuses?? I would appreciate 2nd/3rd... opinions.
Thanks for reading my long a$$ post.
of course. It's an electrical part.
Thanks very much for your answer ✌
