I am helping a friend that thought his transmission had an issue in his 2005 F-150 with the 5.4 engine.
I suspected a bad coil pack, as it was doing it's bucking at low RMPs, in 3rd or 4th gear.
With my Topdon Topscan bluetooth scanner, I can tell that it had 25 misfires on my test drive, as I purposely drove in order to cause them, but it would not throw a code, and cannot tell which cylinder is doing it.
My friend has a Bluedriver, is it capable of isolating the cylinder?
Thanks!
I have one and the answer is "yes".
Thank you both!
Yes, at least potentially.
Is it the 3-valve engine?
Yes it is. I think it may be that the truck just doesn't have the technology to see which cylinder is misfiring maybe?
I know when I plugged in my 2005 matrix, it had a different set of information it gave.
Yeah, I knew they have some issues, like the spark plugs, I didn't know how bad they really were though, thanks. I am hoping that my friends is just a coil pack, because I am a bit afraid to touch the spark plugs. For such a junky engine, ford sure used it a long time. I was glad my 98 F-150 had the 4.2, it didn't really have any issues.
