Good Years/Bad Years

Hi Scotty;

When searching for a vehicle, should I pay attention to the year the vehicle was made?

(For example, maybe there were a lot of mistakes made during the manufacturing process during the year 2007.)

Thank you!

Kate

Yes.

Usually most mistakes occur when a new model, generation, engine, transmission etc. is released. I personally avoid first few years of production.

It seems you don't like the truth.

This is my go to website: https://www.carcomplaints.com/

It's very helpful.

In case you have not seen this website referenced on this forum, carcomplaints.com can provide useful info regarding problems associated with a particular model year.

Yes, you want to make sure what years the model you are looking for, is the best.

For instance, the Lexus RX350 is a good car, but the first few years had a part that was prone to failure and could destroy the engine. So best to avoid the first 3 years, or either make sure the faulty part was replaced, or that you replace it upon purchase.

Some issues are not as easy to fix, like the Toyota models with the 2.4 engine between 2007-1010 were oil burners. Better to completely avoid those.

Do you research, and you can avoid, or mitigate issues that a certain model may have.

Generally speaking, the first 1-2 years, are the years that are less refined, and the latter years of a generation is more refined.

With that said, the years do matter, as even some amazing makes, have had some bad years.

if you have specific years of makes and models, feel free to ask in a new thread. Many of us have a general idea built into our heads of potential problem years. And many of us are more knowledgeable in some brands and models, and less so on others,  it together, I think we cover a lot.
