Can this be a transmission issue? How will you suggest I deal with this?

Hi guys,

The link below gives the background story of the situation

https://carkiller.com/scottykilmer/postid/123092/

Thanks @Saranac12

The bump steer got fixed by an alignment and tyre rotation. However, the hesitation and ever slight vibration(i feel this in the steering and through the floor of the cabin) I still feel even at highway speed which I thought is due to engine power loss did not get fixed.

I had my spark plugs changed, my injectors cleaned and the air filter changed. Took an interstate trip of about 200miles and I still have the same issue with what I feel as hesitation to accelerate. It only gets to really pick up at way higher revs than it usually does. normally without exceeding 2500 - 3000 rpm I get to speeds of 60miles plus very easily but not I have to rev to over 4k rpm.

So when I step on the gas it the sound I hear sounds a little different from the way my engine usually sounds so I am thought to check it out. It sounds like it has a lot more hump to it.

Doing some digging I am seeing information that points to transmission issues. I hope that is not the case. What do you think guys?

Well even Toyota transmissions eventually do go out make sure it's not the drive shafts doing it but if not it probably is inside the transmission

Hi @scottykilmer and @Jpparisio ,

Thanks for your response.

I did drain about 4 litres of the old transmission fluid and replaced it with brand new oil. So I mixed the old with new oil. Below is what the new and old oil looks like. I followed and advice I believe Scotty gave on one of his videos about not completely draining the old fluid.(i might be wrong on this)

I have seen a massive difference after test driving and I believe changing the fluid in its entirety might give a better result.

Do you think that is fine to do or I should just stick with what I have now.

Thanks for your help so far.

Hi Scotty,

Thanks for the response.

It only has 124k miles. Do you suggest I change the transmission fluid?

Have you ever changed the fluid before? It may not help the problem at hand but it needs to be done.

I have never changed the fluids. Not sure if the previous owner changed the fluids. But the fluid looks pretty clean and okay

I would do 2 or 3 more drain and fills, driving a while between times, which will replace 90% of the trans fluid in there.

Thanks Tobias,

How much in miles do you think I should use as the interval to do the change.

Took it to mechanic to check it out and he kept insisting that the car drove as it ought to. I had to give up on getting help from them

If the top picture is what the fluid looks at now you are fine. The old fluid looks in bad shape. If the transmission is responding correctly I don't think you need to change it again until the reached time. If you really want to remove more of the old fluid keep changing it until you are happy with the condition. 3 to 4 times would be good.

Thanks Jpparisio.

Much appreciated. I think it will be best I do the change. What internal do you think I use before the adding the next one

I'll usually drive around about 30 minutes between times, enough so the trans comes up to operating temperature and the new fluid has a chance to mix in.

I agree with Chuck on the process.

I have already had a 45min 10mile drive to visit a friend.. so will do the oil change tomorrow.

Will let you know about the results.

You guys have been great. Thanks
