Car financial question - Trading in a BMW with positive equity for a Lexus IS 300

Hey Scotty. I have a 2012 BMW 335i RWD with 102,000km. I got a balance of 15k CAD on it and was offered 15k by the dealership on a trade in for a 2018 Lexus is300 AWD with 15,000km on it for 32k CAD. This means rolling back another 2 years on my already 2 years car loan.

Given the current market made it possible to get a little more on my used BMW, is it worth to jump to a Lexus for longevity and reliability?

Seems to me you are buying some things you can't really afford tbh. You can always give it a shot, no hurt in trying. Why Lexus and not a Toyota if that be the case? Yes it is worth the jump especially with a bmw getting up in miles, but I don't think it's worth a 2 year roll over for a new new one..

The issue is not the price. Im not familiar with Lexus so the price to me doesn't sound high or low. BMW is over 100,000km and is almost 10 years old. I am at the end of the financing so it makes sense to swap the car while its worth a little more than it should (crazy used car inflation). Also Toyotas are not Lexus. But if someone know how much Lexus should go for compared to having 0 to positive equity in my current loan,,, it makes sense to jump to something definitely newer and with considerable less mileage.

Gotcha, I understand what you mean now. One thing you have wrong though is that Lexus is the luxury brand company of the Toyota motor corp. So yes it is a Toyota with just a fancier skin. Reliability and other things will decently hold value in the long run as well. Price is also about right for the Lexus.

I am really interested in the fact that Lexus has port and direct injection. So no more worrying about dirty valves. Im not a fan of turbos anymore as they always comes with their own issues. Those things are hard to come by with the Toyotas as they are all GDI mostly 4cy engines. But that is300AWD has a naturally aspirated V6 which sound reliable. this next car should be my last purchase in many many years.

Aight ya lost me again. Lol. If you are asking for 2018+ then the 4 cyl you are mentioning is the A25A which is direct and multiport injection and not strictly "GDI" not like it matters much for a toyota, and I don't see Toyota making any 4cyl turbos... I do agree that V6 is hard to come by for Toyota though. The Lexus should last you though being a Toyota car haha.

All else being equal, I’d get rid of an almost 10yr old BMW which might turn into an endless moneypit..
