Car tire quality versus price

Scotty,

I recently replaced the original equipment tires on my 2018 Sonata with mid-priced M+S Continental PurContact tires. The tires have good treadwear and temperature ratings, and online reviews of the tires are generally good. Now after putting about 10K miles on them, they feel lumpy. I'm having buyer's remorse thinking that a higher-priced tire might have been more satisfying.

My question for you is whether tire ride, handling, quietness, and overall satisfaction are directly tied to tire price? And with so many tire brands and models, how do you choose good tires?

Thank you.

I'd say they're do be correlation between the price of a tire and the quality of it. But not directly impacted by a price point alone. I have hankook on my camry and just in general trust them for their tires but I actively avoid firestone due to a scandal they had.

I think your problem is different though. Lumpy or wavy tires suggest that the tire is out of balance, wheel alignment is off, or you got some bad suspension parts. If you drive on a lot of bumpy roads this can also be a determining factor. Maybe you went over a curb or something as well.

The price does not always reflect a tires quality but in some cases this is true. The only thing that matters is the quality of the tire. You just need to find a good set of tires that work best with your needs and your vehicle.

Tyres are the first and last point of contact between your car and the road your driving on.

Ordinary road going car doesnt exactly require Pirelli P-Zero F1 racing tyres, but I wouldn't be fitting 49€ chinese junk either. I've pretty much exclusively used Toyo, Bridgestone and Hankook tyres and they range from 80-100€ l. No complaints with any of them

Do you have alloy or steel rims?

When you get into cheap Chinese stuff, you're going to have bad quality.

I use strictly Pirelli tires as they make excellent tires even for the non-performance minded driver.
