[Solved] Change the timing belt or get another car?

Hello,

I have a 2011 Honda Accord EX-L V6 3.5L (yes, it has a timing belt), almost 98k miles. I think it is probably time to replace the timing belt and water pump. But the quotes from several dealers and mechanic shop are all above $1000, one is even $1,700. The package includes timing belt, water pump, coolant flush, drive belt, ...

I only bought this car for $8,000 last year. I wonder if it is worth replacing the timing belt. Would it be a good idea to sell this car and buy another one that does not have a timing belt? Thank you very much!

100% worth keeping the car and changing the belt. Do the service, those are reliable cars.

Timing chains can be a nightmare during service if they ever need to be serviced, say caused by someone not changing their oil on time or running low on oil.

Thank you very much!

Well it lasted 10 years on this timing belt. $1,000 for another 10 years doesn't sound bad at all.

Thank you very much!

Get the work done, it is worth it.  Just find a good, independent mechanic who stands behind their work.

100k is also a good time to replace all the spark plugs.  Front 3 aren't too bad to get to, but the back 3 are tougher to access.

Thank you for the suggestion.
