Hi my name is tommy umm I bought a Chevy cobalt and it has a surging problem I changed the intake camshaft solenoid didn’t fix it I haven’t tried the exhaust solenoid. It surges between 25 mph and 35 mph the rpm jerks up and down between those speeds.  I don’t what it is I took to mechanic and they said they didn’t see what I was telling them . Thank you for your time.

2010 Chevy cobalt coupe 2.2 engine

4 speed automatic transmission

145,000 miles

I’m guessing it’s the pedal position sensor I don’t know much about cars or mechanic but doing some research on the net came to that part

When you scan it what do codes and live data show?

Lol Walt Disney

Yeah, Nash/AMC sponsored the Disney TV show back in the day.

Cool so u think it’s the transmission man ?

How does the car feel when the engine surges, does the engine RPM shoot up but the car doesn't go any faster?

Yeah it drives faster it just the surge the rpm’s starts going back and forth and u can feel the car jerk back n forth it’s only between those speeds then it’s fades away idk there has to be some one that had the same problem but I guess it could something random

OK, probably not the transmission then. It was hard to tell in your video, it looked like car speed was steady and trans was losing it but from what you're saying that's not what's happening.

Lots of things can cause engine surging. Here's some of the things that your "mechanic" should have checked:

I just read that it could be pedal position sensor that it causes surging while driving I might of found the problem

Great if it's something simple like that.

Yeah I hope so that be cool

I could see it, if you have an electronically controlled throttle and the pedal position sensor is sending funky data it could make the engine surge. To my knowledge that sensor is basically a potentiometer and those wear and get dirt inside, kind of like a scratchy volume control on an old radio.

Lol

If the engine RPMs are changing and the road speed is not (it looks that way in the video), that suggests that your transmission is slipping.

I’m a noob to cars man I’ve scanned it and no codes haven’t tried live data I don’t know how to do that lol

If it's the transmission you'd need a pro scan tool to get to any transmission codes. The mechanic should have been able to do that and check live data.

Yeah I’ll try some liquid transmission fluid anyways thanks for the info some mechanics are losers ha some don’t care enough to help sad but true I wish there was a honest mechanic

Well if you're anywhere near Rhode Island, Scotty will be out that way for a few months.
