Hey Scotty i own a 2013 chevy equinox the at 192,000 after having a shop work on it after the pcv valve got clogged causing the timing to go out after having them fix that it went out yet again because they didnt clean the pcv valve and they refused to admit to their faults so i took it upon myself to fix it.. The timing no longer rattles like a loose tooth and ive been able to drive it through short trips without issue but now its sounding like a small birds stuck in the engine or someones squeegeeing ... Its not the belts and is coming from the right side of the engine bay maybe even towards the middle. Lost confused and frustrated please help lol. The intake valves are pretty dirty as well do you think that could have something to do with the sounds?
The PCV valve has nothing to do with the timing. I don't know who worked on your car or what they did. What, exactly did you "drill out?" Why wasn't the old PCV valve simply replaced with a new one? They only cost about $20.
As @doc says, the PCV valve has nothing to do with timing, except perhaps a clogged PCV valve could lead to sludge buildup over time which could affect the timing chain and tensioner. Drilling into the manifold? For what purpose?
Rattling is typicaly caused by a worn timing chain or loose tensioner, and those vehicles are known for timing chain and other engine problems. Better get it repaired since that's an interference engine and it will self-destruct if the chain lets go. (You didn't say what engine you have but both the 2.4 and 3.6 are interference engines known for timing chain problems.)
You've been very lucky to get nearly 200K miles out of that thing.
