Scotty What is your opinion on the Chevy Uplander Minivan? My Grandparents have had the Buick Terazza Version for about 15 years with no problems so far.

It's a good idea when you're considering a particular vehicle year/model to visit the NHTSA's website and look over the recalls, complaints, and especially the manufacturer's communications.

Those communications will inform you about specific issues with the vehicle and how the manufacturer is telling the dealers to service/repair the issue.

There's a lot of useful information there.

In the case of the 2008 Chevy Uplander there are over 600 of these communications.

You don't have to read them all. But just looking at the 1st few I found this one.

Speaking for myself, I don't want a vehicle that has an issue with finding needle bearings in the drain oil.

AND I certainly don't like that the repair is limited to only the damaged roller rocker.

To me, this would seem like a parts defect and that all of them are prone to failure.

NHTSA ID Number: 10178387

Manufacturer Communication Number: PIP5226D

Summary

This Preliminary Information communication provides information to the technician about finding needle bearings during an oil change. Technician will gain access to the roller rockers to inspect them. Only replace the roller rocker that is missing needle bearings. Be sure to clean the oil drains to retrieve the needle bearings. Each roller rocker has 66 bearings.

Wiki says this about the UPLANDER as far as crash ratings.

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Chevrolet Uplander has an improved crash test rating than its predecessor, the Venture. The Uplander, Pontiac Montana SV6Buick Terraza and Saturn Relay earned the highest rating of "Good" in the IIHS offset frontal crash test, but was rated only "Acceptable" and "Poor" in the IIHS side crash test with and without the optional side airbags, respectively.
