Hey so I have a 3.6L v6 Chrysler with 85.000 miles and I love it. I'm 10.000$ in the hole trying to decide to trade it in to the dealer or to fix it. I changed the fluid in the transmission around 70.000 miles and now I'm hearing a whine from the transmission. I changed it with the understanding that the service was done at the dealer before I had bought the car. I wanted to continue with good maintenance, have no dipstick to check for fluid and it shifts like a clock. The whine gets louder with rpm, and when going up hill or driving like a mad man it will start to slip but when settled it will pick up like nothing even happened. I have the theory that its a little low on fluid and the transmission pump is squealing. I am very scared to get the transmission fluid changed again please advise.
Car was just appraised by CarMax for 8500$ Any recommendations to replace the 300 is welcomed I'm currently looking at a Hyundai Equus lower miles something under 20k Thanks
Which model year?
2013 3.6L Pentastar v6 base model
I get you love your car, like anybody would. But it's not worth keeping, it's a Chrysler. And don't get a Hyundai either. Korean cars may last you 100k miles problem free, but the values DROP. The fact that CarMax appraised you $8500 is kinda cool, especially for a Chrysler with 85,000 miles and transmission issues. And I'd say trade it in, or sell it. If you have the money, use the money that you sold the car for, and the money you are willing to use to get like a new corolla, or camry. Maybe a Honda, but I don't know if Honda fixed the problems with their 1.5 Turbo engines. I would assume they would. If you're gonna use the money from selling the car, get a used camry or corolla. Highway miles or not, they are built like absolute tanks.
See I work for CarMax and I've driven everything under the sun my fav car list go like this
Honda civic Hatch
Honda accord sport
subru Impreza wagon
Infiniti g37 g35 m35 m37
Chrysler 300S
Challenger
Audi a4 base
Audi a3 premium
Toyota camery xse
WV Passat Wolfsburg's edition
Thats about it.... kinda a bigger dude
I'd say go for the Civic hatch, accord sport, and camry XSE. Challenger, maybe if you get one of the 392 or 426 models, but those are well over $40,000. Avoid Audi at all costs, and VW as well. Now I do remember hearing that VW V6's could be okay, but I'd wait to see the long term use of them at first. And if you are a bigger dude, definitely go for the Camry XSE.
