Chrysler Town and Country Buying 1997-2006

Hi Friends and Scotty.

I need to buy a van running good for 4 years with the average commuting of 50 miles per day. I dont have much money to offer a nice running Sienna Van.

I have bad experience with Honda Odyssey so could I get a Chrysler Town and Country from 1997-2006 and get it running for 4 years ?

Can you suggest which year to buy and is it the less horrible choice above Honda Odyssey ? And what is the important points to request the mechanic to test it before buying.

Thanks

p/s: I have driven Town and Country a few times and it is my boss van. The feeling is good.

Clarification: So at an average of 50 miles per day that is about 18,250 miles in a year. You said you need it to last 4 years so that’s 73,000 additional miles (on top of the existing mileage).

Forget the Chrysler. Get an older Sienna.

I cant. First generation Sienna are still in high price in my area and many of them are bad on maintenance. I have checked many of them out. Timing Belt job done for them arent cheap either. If I have big money I can go for 07 and above, those are the ones that have timing chain.

I agree that it can be expensive but realize that if the timing belt is done, you do not need to worry about it for another 100k miles.

I still currently drive my 04 Chrysler Town and Country. I've owned it for over 2 years and it's been very good. It's not a bad car. The later ones with the Pentastar V6 were fine; my family had a few as rentals and we never had a negative experience with them.

Thanks guys. I will make a move. There are a few 1999-02 close to my house <3 Sure I will contact a mechanic to have a look before taking one of them. {pear}

Pretty sure the trans on those are junk, however I still see a decent amount of them rolling down the road. If you find one have a mechanic look it over, if the engine & trans are in good shape, just dont over pay. Dont expect perfection with it though.

Sure, I have seen the van of my boss having R gear going out for lack of maintenance. Someone might have put wrong transfuild on the van too. I will have a mechanic checking it out and change the transmission fluid right away. I know a place that they sell all kind of premium fluid including Amsoil OE the ones that are used in my Corolla.
