Hello, I am looking to buy a low mileage honda civic 2013. The owner is asking quite a lot for it (11k CAD). When I checked the car with ODB2 scanner (Innova RS3100), it showed a problem with O2S - flashing red. But there is no failure codes stored in car's computer. I used the same ODB2 scanner on a different civic 2012 - all was fine, also on my car there is no issue with the O2Sensor reading. How risky is the situation and what could I check to understand better the problem (if there is any)? (On internet there are all sorts of possible issues listed that cause O2 sensor to go bad, from just a bad sensor to failing engine that leaks oil into cylinders and contaminates the catalytic convertor and the o2 sensors...)
Thank you in advance
I would absolutely pass on this car. A problem showing the 02 sensor could be as simple as a bad heater circuit in the sensor to completely worn out piston rings or worse.
Honda's reliability is not stable- it goes back and forth. I would do some research on that car before buying considering that a code popped up even though the check engine light came on. It could be something simple to something severe. I would also have a mechanic look it over to be safe.
