conventional or synthetic for old car that doesn't get driven much

I was given a free 1993 Volvo 960 sedan. 159.5k. It's a second car for me so I don't expect to drive more than 2500 miles a year; however, I know that synthetic is better for older/high mileage cars. So I'm wondering if it would be a waste putting synthetic oil that lasts 7-8k when I would have to change it annually regardless before it even hits the 3-5k oil change interval of conventional oil. Previous owner says when he was dailying it, he had to add a quart or two every month. Still trying to determine whether it's burning or leaking.

Yes using better oil makes sense regardless of millage.

Almost a litter every how many miles?

Chances are it's burning oil, loosing an entire litter would make a pretty big stain on your driveway.

Synthetic

Conventional oil even if you're not driving the car you should change it every 6 months with the synthetic you can let it sit for a year
