Coolant issue, possibly blown head gasket?

Hi, I recently bought a 1995 suzuki escudo 16 valve 1600 4 cylinder automatic. I have had to replace the thermostat and top radiator hose because coolant was leaking out of the hose. Ever since the purchase it has been overflowing and blasting water out of the overflow reservoir and also not circulating back into the radiator so I have to top it up every time I drive it. I have recently replaced the radiator cap. I drove it for about 35 minutes and once I turned it off I checked the overflow and was boiling and had risen right to the top of the reservoir so I waited 15 minutes then came back to check it. The reservoir was empty and the radiator had lost roughly 200ml of coolant. The car doesn’t misfire and doesn’t blow white smoke. It does not overheat so any idea what this could be?? Cheers

I think you should do a radiator pressure test and see where the leak is coming from. You can rent the tool from any part store.

But far as everything else just wait for Scotty or some of the Mediators to answer The boiling radiator question

Yeah thats what I was thinking, but will wait for Scotty or one of the mediators to answer but thanks

The fact that it isn't overheating as it's pushing coolant out of the reservoir makes me think that it's time to do a combustion gas test of the cooling system.

Maybe get a combustion leak test kit ( about $35 on Amazon)

and watch Scotty's video.

you could just have a failed water pump

Recently just had a new water pump in so I’d say unlikely

you should probably mention things like that when you ask for help. Anything else you left out?

Yeah just forgot too, nothing else done recently except had the cam belt replaced before I bought it which was about 500km ago. Another thing worth noting is that before I put the new thermostat in, it didn’t lose as much water in both the radiator and overflow tank.

Was the cooling system ever flushed out?

Well, you possibly have either a blown head gasket or faulty radiator cap. You mentioned that the radiator cap was replaced recently, that rules out the radiator cap scenario.

Sounds like possible a head gasket or radiator cap but if it got worse with the thermostat I would start with making sure it is installed properly with the hole at 12 o clock to make sure it’s working correctly and to pressure test the system

Booked it in for a pressure test and chemical head leak test so will know if it’s the head gasket after that
