Hello, I have a Toyota Corolla 2012 1.6l (the European variant), 220K km with manual transmission. After some half an hour of driving, the car starts to emit a metal-to-metal squeak while driving, emanating from the left front wheel, relative to the rotational speed. This changes to a jetplane-like squeal at speeds over 100 km/h and usually changes pitch with steering, or disappears completely if I touch the brakes. As lucky as I am, simply jacking the car up and rotating the wheel, makes no noises whatsoever and the wheel spins freely. Any ideas what might cause this? Thanks
I would check the brake pads and rotors. You should be able to see some sort of wear sign on the rotor.
Check the wheel bearings and races.
After you jack up the vehicle , set it down with the control arm on a jackstand. That way the suspension is loaded and you'll better simulate driving conditions
