Hello, I have a Ford fusion 2016 automatic transmission 83,000 miles. I saw one of Scotty’s videos talking about the CRC intake valve and turbo cleaner and how it can help with carbon deposits on the GDI engines. I decided to get a can and try it out for myself.
I followed the directions on the bottle. After letting it soak for one hour, I took it out to drive it on the highway for the recommended 10 minutes. When I accelerated out of my parking lot the engine revved up and I heard the turbocharger whistle loudly. I heard what sounded like the wastegate cough and then no more turbo noise.
After I noticed I wasn’t getting any boost. Long acceleration times and the engine sounded like it was moaning and muffled. I had seen on some reviews of the product that you can loose power at first after the heat soak so I continued to drive it on the highway. I finish the 10 minute highway drive and got off the highway and noticed that I still had no boost. I also had no boost on the highway.
Im worried that there may have been some liquid that pooled up and was aspirated, breaking the turbo or risking hydrolock of the engine.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks, Ethan
Id give it 24hrs and see if the problem still exists. I never recommend those ecoboost motors but for the people that get them I always recommend to go the catch can route rather than the CRC stuff.
@usafdozerpilot Thank you, if you don’t mind me asking, what would be the cause of this and what would waiting 24 hours do to fix it?
I should have mentioned, I have the 2.0L Ecoboost.
The only reason I say let it sit awhile is just to see if any change happens letting it sit awhile. I know that may not make sense but sometimes you’d be surprised. I know the early ecos had weak turbos on them. I mean bottom line they are just cheaply made motors. If the problem persists I would give the obvious advice and take it to a mechanic to do a thorough inspection. At 83k you could’ve also had quite a bit of buildup and bigger chunks of buildup could’ve broken off and possibly caused some problems.
@usafdozerpilot Thanks I appreciate the input. Last thing I can afford right now is a new turbocharger so I hope waiting works. I thought I was doing something helpful but I guess not
With that CRC stuff I’d probably only use that if I started early on. Like every 30k or so. But when it’s used on valves that have a lot of buildup your taking a gamble in my opinion. I hope you don’t have any issues at all. If anything when you are able to I’d dump that Fusion. I know that’s easier said than done though. IF you find out there are no real issues with your eco I’d go ahead and put a catch can on it.
Probably fried the turbo bearings. Ah, the joy of the Eco Boost engine, probably the biggest mistake Ford made since the Triton V8.
I hear an "awe crap" coming on!
