Dead G35 Motor, What should I do

I got a Infiniti G35 2006 6MT with 22x,xxx miles. It was a used vehicle bought from a family friend.

I'm new to manual shifting so the G35 was practice but I had to learn very quickly because of a mechanic telling me the clutch was near-death. I caught onto rev-matching, down-shifting, and smooth shifting. Smooth-shifting = prolonged engine/transmission life from what I know.

The car shifted like a dream and the engine was strong when I bought it for $1500. After a week of driving, there was a small, whirring sound that would increase when RPMs would increase. It stopped when the car stopped but sometimes it'd just go away on its own. So that's concern number one.

Concern number two is how would my motor have locked up while driving the vehicle on the highway. The vehicle was doing fine and I was going at around 4k-5k RPM on 5th gear. (Would this have caused the engine to seize?) While cruising on 5th gear it sounded like something had broke underneath the clutch area/middle console. However, it wasn't loud or a bang. The car started making a prolonged noise and didn't stop after I shifted back to 6th gear. After about 2 minutes the car just turned off and the steering wheel got harder to turn too. The car didn't turn on anymore, there would just be one click coming from the engine  after you crank.

My mechanic told me the oil was good still that I must have shifted down wrong or shifted wrong somehow. Any ideas? He quoted me 500 for labor only. Could I trust a used vq35de engine? Is it worth repairing? I'm a college student wanting HP but also a reliable car that won't have any other issues. I'm on a budget of 4000.

Thanks for reading!

@godfather
you can not put a used or rebuilt engine or transmission. it must be remanufactured or brand new. if your motor is locked, you probably mean is HYDROLOCKED.? this is when the engine gets too hot or there is a big issue so it locks, you can not unlock it. your shifter is not related to the big bang noise thats a seperate issue. do you have any leaks? do not pay more than 1,200. any good mechanic will fix it for less than that. if you have to be in 6th gear then you should not be driving youre car anymore to prevent DAMAGE. ask another mechanic to diagnose it and let us know if you get any codes

The car will not turn on, just clicks when you crank the engine. But what your saying is there is no need for engine replacement and that the damage is fixable? I live in Dallas know of any good mechanics? However, no leaks since my power steering pump replacement.

You've got a yourself a hell of a pickle my friend and don't worry I've been there had an engine seize in a car I owned years ago... Its a bummer. You said you have a budget of 4000$

Here's what I found for >4000$: https://www.autotempest.com/results?make=honda&model=civic&zip=47150&maxprice=4000

You old car just isn't worth fixing at this point. Too many miles on it. Get yourself a Honda or Toyota. My search turned up the car I own right now and besides being the best car I've ever owned I bought it from Craigslist and haven't had 1 problem with it in the 7+ years I've owned it. GL in your search for a car <3
