Different Sparkplug Size

Hey Scotty! I decided to change the plugs on my 2002 Camry 2.4L, and apparently, the plugs inside were slightly larger than the new ones I got (both are long-life iridium). Is this normal? I looked up both types of plugs and online they say they are compatible with my engine. I couldn't attach a picture, but the bottom electrode is larger and sticks out more than the new one I got. I installed the new ones and my engine seems to be running fine, no check engine light or anything.

I do not think so.

I checked and all of the Denso plugs for your car have a reach of 19mm and a gap of 0.044.

What model of plugs did you have and what have you installed? It should say it on the plug it self.

You probably should have gone with Denso IK20TT

Here's the Denso plug hierarchy, link to pic from their site:

Old: Denso (3297) SK20R11
New: Denso (5304) IK20

(They are both iridium)

@Dan

The new ones aren't Iridium long life, they're "Iridium Power" (Both are a few generations behind today's Iridium TT)

And since they aren't the same exact plug, they can have slightly differences in the part that's not threaded.

As far as the threaded side, According to Denso, both have the same reach (19mm according to Denso, 3/4 according to parts stores) and gap size (1.1mm although on the old ones it could have increased) - I'd check that and if that's true - I wouldn't worry too much about the rest.

What brand were the new ones and old ones?  By different size, do you mean you needed a different size socket or that the actual size of the plugs are different?

They are the same DENSO brand, just different iridium models
