Engine is Burning Oil

Dear Scotty,

My 2005 Honda CRV EX AWD with 175k miles is burning almost two quarts of oil every 3600 miles and I need your help answering few questions:

1. Is there a way to fix this problem or at least make the engine burn less oil?

2. After how many miles you suggest changing the oil?

3. Do you think is worthed putting full synthetic oil, synthetic oil, or using a normal oil is ok in my case?

Thank you Scotty.

The only easy thing would be to change the PCV valve, and maybe check for leaks. Other than that you're looking at an engine teardown.

Engine oil and filter should be changed at 5000 miles or 1 year, whichever comes first. (If that hasn't been done over the last 18 years that would explain the oil burning.)

Any oil that meets the manufacturer's specifications is fine.

That's about a quart every 1800 miles which most manufacturers would consider "normal" even on a new car for warranty purposes.

As @chucktobias mentioned, that isn't a horrible amount of oil burning.

I am pretty happy if my car only burns that much.

Just expect to add a couple of quarts between oil changes.
