Crown Victoria exhaust

Hi Scotty, my crown Vic has no muffler or cats. The exhaust stops after the front tire and I want to run pipe farther back. Would there be a difference in sound if I ran 3 inch pipe with an adapter to connect it to the current 2 inch pipe  vs just running 2 inch pipe? Thanks

Everyone wants to hollow out their cats or delete them. It's not a good idea.

First off, the myth: Hollowing out/deleting cats causes more horsepower and a better running car. Facts: Absolutely false. This has been scientifically proven a million times.

Modern cars are tuned to run with cats in place. You tamper with them (federal offense BTW), you start screwing up your back pressure and all kinds of fun things which is why you get a check engine light, amongst other things.

Some people do it for sound. Loud does not equal fast, however, and you'll be losing low end torque by just hollowing them out. You basically force the engine to run rich/lean/rich/lean because it can't sort out the A/F ratio due to the changes. Hence the CEL.

They also make your car smell like fuel, which is great if you love getting cancer.

I never recommend messing with the cats unless you are upgrading them to high flows or green cats and getting the car tuned.

Your back pressure is going to be all screwed up now as you have tampered with the exhaust flow.

If you want to make the car louder, put a performance muffler on it. Just chopping off the mufflers and running straight pipe is bad for your motor. Put something back in place ASAP and you will stop having those backfires.

Every car I've listened to where chopping off the muffler and replacing with straight pipe, sounds like a$$.

I would recommend you stop trying to rack up speeding tickets, and do burnouts in your ancient grandpa car. Leave it alone, be happy that it still works, and buy a sports car for the track.

Whoa there, don’t be talking bad about my pimp mobile lol. I’m trying to wake up this sleeper

I think this one is comatose and on life support. Might be time let nature run its course.

I actually owned and drove a Ford 4.6L modular V8 for a while, with gutted cats. It was noticeably louder, and there was no noticeable increase in power. It actually sounded like garbage. Like a piece of crap, beater, broken car. And it smelled like crap too.

Yes of course a 3 inch pipe will sound different. This is why tubas and horns get wider at the end.

That poor crown vic 🙁

Hi Scotty, I took my muffler off my 2003 Ford crown Vic civilian, should I worry about a little backfire when I rev the engine?

Hi Scotty I got a 2003 Crown Vic and I want to know if I will get a check engine light on or if it will mess up my car if I take the back two catalytic converter‘s off since there are four? Thanks

The ones after the oxygen sensors

Yes odds are you would get a light but it probably would run perfectly fine

Why is that?

Hi Scotty, I got a 2003 crown Vic with just two cats left. I was wanting to put on open headers, but then I thought about just hollowing out the last two cats. Is there anything I should know? Thanks

Its illegal, but will make your car run better. You'll get a CEL, P0420 trouble code (or a similar code that tells you which bank the fault is in). If you live in a place that doesn't check for emissions none will really know...

Since the only thing left is the two cats, do you think it will be much louder?

Alittle, not by alot though

I wouldn’t get rid of all of your cats man, first off you won’t get much power boost an your check engine light will be on 24/7 even though I’m sure your tire pressure sensor light is on all the time like my Vic, it’s just not something you would want to do it’ll cause more problems than good, if you’re looking for some performance in your Vic go on Facebook an look up Marty ochs he specializes in crown Vic tuning and very reputable
