F-150 Jumpy at 50mph

I have a 2006 f-150 XLT, 5.4 Gas, 130,000 miles

Recently when I get to around 50 mph and then start to accelerate slowly my truck “jumps” a few times until the speed goes up to 55 and then goes away. If I give more gas it goes away immediately. No problem at idle when accelerating. Doesn’t happen at lower speeds.

I just dealt with that on my friends 05 F-150 5.4

First off, have you had your spark plugs changed, and when? Also did they change the coil pack boots and springs?

For my friends, it had one bad coil pack, I replaced it. I replaced all boots and springs for the coil packs as well. That resolved about 90% of the misfire, which I am pretty sure you are experiencing the same. My friend probably needs to change his spark plugs again, but for now most of the issue is gone. He has 180k miles, spark plugs changed at 100k.

You can pull the coil packs out and test them with a multimeter.

Check basics such as filters, fuel pressure, spark plugs. Clean throttle body and MAF sensor. Scan for codes and live data.

No codes. Cleaned the MAS and new filters.

What about recording data while the problem happens to see what's going on?

I don’t have a great scanner, but maybe I could take it somewhere. Trying to eliminate things before I take it in for big money.

Some of the newer inexpensive scan tools can surprise you. Mine only cost about $50 or so and can record and even graph data. You could also check things like whether your MAF and O2 sensors are working properly and what fuel trims look like. (Of course it would be nice to be able to just hook up a fancy scanner like Scotty uses and have it automatically test everything but most of us can't justify spending $6000 on a scan tool.)

Do you know the brand?

There are scan tool recommendations in the FAQ. (I have the CGSULIT SC301.) A lot of people like the "Bluedriver" tool for use with a smartphone. You may find that your current scanner can display live data unless it is a very basic model.
