Scotty, My 2010 Ford F-150 recently started to make this mechanical whining sound that increases with RPM. I've tracked the sound down to what I think is one of the pulleys/bearings driven by the fan belt (video attachment included). Any ideas on what it may be? Is it the fan belt itself? It's a 4.6 L V8 engine, RWD with just over 60,000 miles. It seems to drive fine otherwise, but I can hear the noise through the dash and I think at high enough speeds, the engine's noise just drowns it out. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tUhsb5_LdzFGPgkWTnMUaT-x-voOo9EI/view?usp=drivesdk
classic power steering pump groan. (typical on Fords in my experience).
Have you ever serviced the fluid? kept it topped up? If not then it may be too late and the pump is worn.
I just checked the fluid level, it was below minimum. It's been approx. a week since the noise started. Think I can add fluid and see how it goes?
Sure.
