Fix the Camry?

Hi Scotty,

I have a 2002 Toyota Camry 4cyl automatic with 228,000 miles. It's been a great car and I would like to give it to our sixteen year old son. It burns a 1/2 to 3/4 quart of engine oil every 3,000 miles and when we start it in the morning, the exhaust is grayish. The spark plugs look fine. The rack and pinion needs to be replaced and the two trans axle seals need replacing as well. The car seems to run fine. Do you think it would be wise to fix the problems and hope to get a few more years out of the car?

Thanks for all you do and I look forward to hearing from you,

Bill Carroll

I would get rid of it. It's not worth fixing a 20 year old car that needs that much replacement.

Not worth it.  This is the engine that had problems with the head bolts stripping out of the block and blowing the head gasket.
