It's an instagram video, so it must be true.
Better to use a commercially-available tire plug. (Best is an inside patch but the tire has to be dismounted for that.) Bear in mind that it's not safe to repair holes in or near the sidewall.

I wouldn't risk it. personally. My Ranger has a full-size spare. Just change the tire, or call a tow truck if yours doesn't have a spare.
