I was thinking about getting an oil/fluid extractor to remove oil when doing an oil change. Are they ok or should I continue to drain the oil the usual way. Thank you.

Peronally, I'd just change the oil the usual way. Gunk will eventually start building up in the oil pan if you don't do it from the bottom. The act of changing the oil from the oil drain bolt causes oil to flow at higher speeds vs a top-based extraction, cleaning out the oil pan. Those fancy oil change things that do the change from the top almost never completely empty the pan, which means you're still going to ride around with at least some old oil.

Unless you have an oil filter that's located on the top of the engine (only my '94 540i and my Chevy HHR have ever had the "feature") you still need to get underneath the car to change the oil filter on most cars anyways.

Don't re-invent the wheel if you don't need to.
