Ford escape 2017 small block replacement

Hello Scotty,

Boy do I wish I had found your channel back in 2017 before I decided to buy a brand new Escape over a new Rav4. At the time it was a bit cheaper and I got a 2017 Ford Escape SE with the 1.5 Ecoboost engine and an automatic transmission.

Well here I am today at 82k miles and in need of engine block replacement due to coolant leakage into cylinders 2 and 4. The car starts and then immediately shuts down. I live in the Chicago area and was quoted by one mechanic 8,500 dollars for the job. I called my dealer and they said they would be about the same price. Even if it was half the price I am not able to come up with the funds. I found out about a class action lawsuit against Ford due to this specific issue and contacted the law office handling the case. I am yet to speak with the law office but that likely wouldn't help me for years or possibly not at all.

On top of the engine problems, I had to have the transmission rebuilt about 3 months ago but got a torque converter failure code the same week the engine went out on me. I am still making payments on the car with 5 months left on the loan.

My only real option seems to be selling the car as is and hoping it will be enough to pay off my car loan. Being unable to commute has cost me my job and I am scrambling to try to find a job where I can walk or take public transportation. All during the holiday season. Well any advice or suggestions would be appreciated but looks like I am up the river without a paddle. No more Fords for me.

Love your videos and thanks,

Matt

I would advise putting some bars head gasket sealer into the system and follow the directions on a can. That may fix the coolant leak and the engine. Then sell the stupid thing to CarMax or one of those places they buy vehicles to see if you can at least get your money out of it and then get a Toyota

Thanks, ordered some Bars and will try it out.

Just to set expectations, bear in mind that if Bars Leaks works it is a temporary band-aid and it's impossible to say how long it would last. Assuming it does work I'd get rid of that vehicle ASAP. The mass used car retailers like Carvana or Carmax are popular places to dump bad cars. As Scotty says make sure you follow the Bars Leaks instructions to the letter for the best shot at a successful outcome.

Yeah, that's what I am thinking. Just take it to Carmax. I put the bars in today and followed the instructions. The engine light didn't come on and it seemed like the white smoke coming out the exhaust was less after I finished. Gonna let it run some more tomorrow and see if the white smoke will stop.
