Ford Flex

Hello Scotty!   Enjoy your Youtube and I have a used car question.

We are considering a Ford Flex as it seems to be going for fairly cheap especially now that they are discontinued.

Found a nice 2014, good Car Fax. Best price is $9,487, this at a used car lot.     BUT it has 153,000 on the clock.  Car has lived solely in Tennessee.

SO... what about the 3.5L V6 and the Transmissions in these.  Good to go... or no???

PS...  Replacing wife's 2006 GMC Envoy XLS with 220k miles that is using oil and showing it's age.  Will be her daily driver but she is retired now so it will only get modest milage added...  She wants to retain at least 6 passenger capability.

THANKS for any opinion you can provide.

Thomas Dixon...   South central Tennessee.

It does NOT have the Eco Boost engine.

The naturally aspirated 3.5L Duratec V6 suffers from the same issue as the Ecoboost version. In both transverse mounted applications (since it is a FWD based vehicle), due to packaging constraints the water pump is located behind a timing cover and driven by a timing chain. When the pump finally leaks, it will mix with the engine oil and can potentially lead to catastrophic engine damage. Even if you caught the leak in time, either way to replace the water pump is a partial engine out service that will run >$1,500. That vehicle is already high mileage, so if the water pump hasn’t been replaced already it’s a ticking time bomb.
