It was also suggested to post separately on this one.  Overall  accurate fuel level reading with high frequency, low amplitude position variation  (as opposed to wide swing).  I've read on various  other forums  where some have injected viscous fluids into the motor to dampen the response  (not a big fan of this approach) and also some indicating issue stemming from sender unit, as opposed to the stepper motor.  Can anyone comment on the true issue here for this particular type of response?   thk you kindly

I'm a little confused what you're asking. Are you basically saying your fuel gauge reads accurately but randomly flutters a bit? I wouldn't worry about fixing that on a 23 year old Suburban. The problem's either gonna be in the gauge or the sending unit is wearing out.

The level reads with a potentiometer like a dimmer switch in your dining room. A float sits in gasoline and "adjusts" the dimmer switch instead of your hand. Full provides high current, empty provides low. Reading the amperage with a multimeter through the gauge wires will tell you where the problem is originating if you really want to fix it. If it's a sending unit, fixing that means dropping the tank and replacing an expensive fuel pump assembly. If it's the gauge, you're gambling that a junkyard panel doesn't do the same thing. I would just live with it, personally.

@justin-shepherd   correct interpretation for most part.,not random, its a AC type flutter  around the DC potentiometer voltage..like crappy damping .I just don't like it. I am trying to keep the V-hicle in excellent shape for most part.  I can get a new 'C' stepper motor online ..and I have a spare fuel pump assembly also. I've also modified cargo area for top access to tank,  just would like to know where the real cause is...  Stepper is alot easier to swap.  If I get motivates, Ill get some video and more details on when it does and does not occur.

does it still happen with the engine shut off, but key-on in accessory position?

@mmj at the moment, tank basically full. Key on seems to push needle to max position with slow decay to nominal. But no vibration at moment with key on with engine either on or off. With key off, needle seems to stay at nominal value as well, does not drop to min position. and with Key in On/ACC, same response as Key on,  no flutter at moment.  I will update once I see it do it again and run through various testing.

try removing the serpentine belt too.

@mmj, are you thinking alternator? or vibration in the fuel level when park? (I do have very slight vibration overall in vehiclewhen parked, but not a single misfire on any cylinder...not sure where vibration is coming from. I did do my first full rebuild myself on it, including rocker setpoint .so it could very well be non-optimized, mpg is slightly low and running slightly rich +2% both sides from what I recall)..other gauges are steady and of course, needle vibration is a new issue.
