Hey scotty, I have a question Brought a GM HOLDEN commodore australian Ve 2008 sv6 5 speed auto 325k KMS/ 201k miles Brought it and bloke said timing chains were done 60k ago, No proof i just trusted him, I believed him as these are notorious for stretched timing chains Is there any way to tell without taking half the engine apart? Seems to be no rattles and engine is pretty smooth for it's age, Transmission is really good aswell Have you heard much about ve/alloytec gm engines? What's your thoughts on them

No error codes
Short term fuel trim is -5%
Long term -0.8%
Idles at about 638 RPM, Very very quiet engine even at 5-6k revs
Cleaned MAF sensor, Used injector cleaner, New air filter, Fresh full service ( all done by myself so i know it's up to par i don't trust anyone else working on my car either)
These cars are known for blocking cats around this age mine is still flowing perfect, But for future if i needed to do it you had a video where you ran laquer thinner in a 1:10 ratio to clean the cats, Is this still viable on new direct injection engines?
Everyones thoughts/opinions/questions are welcomed! Ask away!
Also wondering if anyone knows where i can buy r-134a refridgerent in australia by any chance that isn't an 11kg bottle. lol.

This is my first ever car, I have no mechanic experience i have learnt everything from your youtube videos within the past 3 months? I appreciate everything you have taught me, You have saved me thousands upon repairing my own car, Aswell as my mates for them!
Dad already had a scan tool laying around, So i use that when i needed to.

Scott, You even gave me the confidence on working on my car that i installed, A custom radio/headunit/wiring loom/aircon/climate control/voice activation with 12 gauge speaker wiring throughout the whole car with a 2000w speaker setup with 1600w dual subwoofer at 4 ohms, Powered by 2x pioneer gm-d9705

Mind you! That was not an easy job as these ve's have there own radio/aircon controls built in, Was thousands upon thousands and alot of wiring and soldering!
Only 1 fuse blown throughout the process too! Was pretty pumped about that, Works perfect and probably the best true 5 channel sound system i've heard in a car.

Hey thank's for the reply scott, ve commodores having an alloytec, It's governed by the PCM via the CRANK ANGLE SENSOR which reads directly off the crank, So timing chain wear will only affect cam timing and not ignition timing in GM alloytecs sadly!

plus these ecu use spark to also control idle so timing can be moving around a bit just normally, idle isnt a steady state as its been controlled at that rpm, soon as u go to a higher rpm its also loaded up more so the timing will be more consistent, it also jumps out of the idle timing table into the main spark table, timing uses airmass and has hundreds of cells with values in them based on the load of the engine v rpm
