Good buy or good bye?

Morning,

I'm looking at buying a Mazda 3 and am wondering if you can help.

I have my eye on a 2012 Mazda 3 I Touring with the 155hp skyactiv-g 2L. My concern is the milage: 194262. It's had one owner and no accidents reported.

Dealership is asking $4,700 for it.

Worth the time to check out or walk/run away?

I would pass. That's a lot of miles and those older models weren't made that well. Plus that is way too much for that car. It should be more like $2000.

Prices for decent 3s are bit high around here, so I'm aiming for what I can get for less than 6k. Found a few 2010s with less mileage but around the same price.

Back up choices are a 2010 3 with just under 150k or a 2011 Honda fit with 142k.

Thanks for the advice.

The Honda Fit would be a great choice if it's a manual transmission. I'm not too knowledgeable of the automatics in those, but I do know the manual Fits are well made.

Two years ago, it would have been too much money and I would say get something newer.

These days, I just don't know what is considered a good deal any more. It's anyone's guess.

Too high milage for that motor… for that price you can get a much nicer car

I would pass on that.

That was the second generation Mazda3, well before their partnership with Toyota (and their reliability steadily improved).  At that high mileage (almost 200,000 miles) for that vehicle, I would easily pass on it.  Heck, even the newer 3rd generation Mazda3, while much better than the 2nd Gen, I wouldn’t even recommend that one beyond 200,000 miles (their reliability in recent years is in the Top 4 but still not at Toyota/Honda levels yet).

Think I will just go with the Honda. The Mazdas seem too high for the amount they're asking for 12 yr old cars.

Hell ones been on the guys lot for nearly a year and come down from 7000

Honda Fit sold on Monday. Dammit, back to the drawing board.
