Harbor Freight Scan Tool

Hey Scotty, I'm a retired engineer, but not a car guy. I have a ghost in my 2018 Chevy Colorado. The check engine light comes and goes. I went to look at scan tools at Harbor Freight. They have many models. I chose a $159 tool. It seems helpful to me. What is your opinion?  https://www.harborfreight.com/zr13s-obd2-code-reader-with-abssrsfixassist-57666.html?_br_psugg_q=obd2+scanner.

Thanks, Jeff.

Harbor Freight's "Zurich" scan tools are rebadged Innova models. (I'm not sure which model the ZR13s corresponds to.) There are some notes about Innova scanners in the site FAQ.

Features include ability to read trouble codes and freeze frame data from all systems. Recording and graphing of live data. It even provides access to some kind of troubleshooting database.

If it's bug free, and easy to use, then I'd say it's not too shabby for the price.

So did you scan your Colorado?

I like it. A couple years ago it cost around $300. So for $160 I'd say it's well worth it.

It has features which a "not a car guy" would find especially helpful.

I say you made a good purchase

Something to be aware of when looking at these Harbor Freight devices is they only come with a 90-day warranty where the Innova product has a one-year warranty. (Most HF products are 90-day warranty with the exception of hand tools which are "lifetime".)

You can buy an extended warranty for the Zurich, indeed you will be pressured to do so by the cashier if buying in person at the store. Online it costs $30 for one-year extended warranty, $35 for two years. This is just something to keep in mind when comparing prices of Harbor Freight products with their competitors.
