Highway miles vs city miles

Hey Scotty, you often talk about highway miles versus city miles.  I drive a lot of back road country highways and the speed limit is usually 55 mph.  Would those be considered highway miles?  Thanks!

They would be highway miles unless you drive like a postal carrier -   every couple hundred yards, then stop, then accelerate, then slow down and stop - repeat until you get home. It's all the wear on the engine and especially transmission speed up/slowing down, shifting up/then down. Wears out brakes, too.

At a steady 55, you will probably be one of the few who gets the advertised "highway" fuel mileage, too.

Thanks for the info. Is 55 mph fast enough to help burn the carbon build up off the sparkplugs?

Sure - if it isn't all short trips . The carbon and moisture in the oil problem comes from doing 1 or 2 mile trips where the engine never gets fully warmed. Wouldn't hurt to give it some throttle getting to 55, though.
