Hello Scotty , I have a big concern about my car I bought this car witch is a 2009 Honda Accord coupe . The car is amazing rides like a dream best choose of getting a Honda . My first car was a 2008 Chevy Malibu ls. The Honda Accord has 128,000 miles .NO ENGINE CODES . No codes stored . I changed the spark plugs
This car tends to vibrate while it’s in gear and me waiting at a red light. Once I stop completely it vibrates. My mechanic changed 3 motor mounts only . Once I got the car back from my mechanic it wasn’t as bad as I gave it to him . It still vibrates but not as hard as I gave it to him at first.
What can it be ? Because the vibration gets annoying. HELP PLEASE
Sounds like it is the torque converter. If you put it in neutral and it goes away then it is the torque converter. That is common when cars age. Honestly, it isn't worth replacing a torque converter over vibration. If you don't like the vibration just put it in neutral when you stop.
How much does it cost to change the torque converter ? Or would it be better if I change the transmission oil ? With Honda original oil ?
A torque converter be like $1000 here in cali at least. Changing the trans oil won't do much of anything and if the car runs and drives fine just live with it and put it to neutral. Not exactly the best thing to do over time but Ehh it's a honda.
Pulling the torque converter requires dropping the transmission.
I'm gonna second that it is likely the torque converter. To swap it, you have to pull the whole transmission, an expensive proposition.
If it is just vibration, man I'd live with it before shelling out the money to replace the converter.
I just came back from the transmission shop and they took it for a drive and did test on the car and told me the transmission is in good test. And that it’s not the transmission or the torque converter making that . Makes it makes my engine shake a little
You said they tested the car. Could you confirm that they use scan tool to do it? What did they tell you about the issue?
They checked the data on the car . And went to the transmission section and said that there is no misfire in the transmission or codes . They used a scanner that looks like a tablet .
And if I wanted to change the torque converter that it would not just be the torque converter and that I would have to change some other things they said . And that I would have to rebuild my transmission. It would cost me 2400
I would get a second opinion.
Yeah you can DEFINITELY change just the converter. I'd get a second opinion as well.
Have you checked all your remaining motor mounts & transmission mounts?
No I haven’t . They only changed the ones that where really bad they said .
There's not much left it could be but the remaining mounts.
I’ll check on them then
I have a 2017 Honda Accord Sport SE with 35k miles on it 2.5, 4-cylinder engine and it does the exact same thing. I remember my brother's 2004 Honda Accord EX did the same exact thing when idling at a red light or just stopped with the engine running and the transmission in "D".
Perhaps it's the torque converter or something related; but I feel like it's simply a Honda Accord thing 🙃 . I just shift into Neutral if I'm sitting for a while and it stops so it doesn't bother me - it seems to be a Honda quirk as it ages and doesn't seem to cause any other issues from what I could tell.
Try changing the fuel filter. A clogged filter will mean the engine is not getting the correct amount of pressure and this will be more noticeable at lower RPMs. Check the air filter and PCV valve too. Check all of your vacuum lines as well. I just fixed 3 engine codes on my Lexus by re-attaching two vacuum lines.
I would have another shop verify it isn't the torque converter, because thats a likely culprit according to the experts above. You could change the transmission fluid as well because its time to change whether it solves this issue or not.
I used to own a 2017 Honda Accord Sport SE with the cvt from new and it did the same exact thing. I dont necessarily believe that something is “faulty” as like I said since new my car did the same thing as it does for MANY other people. However if you want to stay on top of the maintenance to the trans dont forget that idk about the older ones, but I know that the 2016-2017 Accords with the CVT have an internal filter that can be somewhat easily replaced but is often overlooked and most people dont even know that its there.
