Hi Scotty,
you're wonderful! I live just north of Toronto Canada. My car is a Honda civic 2010 1,8.
During a snow storm I went off road and hit a rock. The front bumper came off, the radiator and steering fuids leak. The car overheats but it is freezing inside.
I put coolant and a leak-stop inside just to get home.
The car is actually still running.
Is it worth calling insurance or better just fix it with a mechanic?
Thank you
All the best
Alessandro
Get a quote from a mechanic then see what your insurance deductible is. If it costs more than your deductible, file a claim.
Deductible 1.000 $
Cost of fixing over 2.500$
Also insurance might increase
Looks like you are $1500 ahead using your insurance. Doing so will raise your rates but not by enough to pay for it out of your pocket. Besides, the car is 12 years old. I would reduce my coverage to liability only at this point.
Look into it. My insurance would increase the basic rate over the course of 2 or 3 years, and the total including deductible could be more than the repair cost. Not to mention my discount status could be downgraded. This amount of increase likely depends on your driving record. Driver premiums are attached to you, not the vehicle. .Either way, call the insurance company. It's their job to provide the figures to you.
if you wreck your car, and you can afford to fix it out of your own pocket, it's always cheaper that way, then it is claiming it in the long run.
Adding to what Doc said is to see how it will impact your insurance cost if you file this claim. If for example your deductible is $500 and it's going to cost $700 to fix it, but then the increase in your insurance price is going to offset this $200 difference then it might not be worth filing a claim.
