Honda CR-Z will not charge

I have a 2011 Honda CR-Zed (not V), hybrid, with 92,000 miles that will not charge.  One day when driving to work, a light came on that said "check charging system"

while driving it was operating fine.  When I backed into why parking spot, all of a sudden it had lost power steering and the car was sluggish and had trouble moving.  Once I had parked another signal was appearing, " Check VSA".  I placed it in park and turned it off, when I tried to start up the car again, it wouldn't start.

After I had finished for the day, I tried again to start the car and operated like normal.  Driving for about 15 minutes, the same problems started happening again, this time with all sorts of signals appearing and I couldn't roll my windows up.  I pulled over into a parking lot and turned off the car, try to start it back up and again it wouldn't start.

I was able to take it to a mechanic and explained everything, in which they suspected it was a bad alternator.  However, this car does not operate with an alternator, it uses a completely different system to charge the battery.  For the hell of it, I bought a new battery, an Optima, still continued with the same issues.  The mechanic could not figure out what was wrong and told me to take it to Honda as they may be able to figure it out.  So I haven't done that yet and wanted to see, hopefully if anyone has had this issue or may have an idea what could be wrong. Thanks

The 12V battery is charged from the hybrid battery pack using a DC-DC voltage converter. Those are very complex vehicles, you need to take it to a hybrid specialist.

Any chance you can pull any codes with a scan tool?

I’m just going to throw out ideas to check, but I really don’t know what is wrong with your car, based on the info you shared.

It could very well be the “alternator”, it has a different “alternator”, I believe the electric motor acts as the “alternator”.

It could also be the hybrid battery.

It could be the ECU.

Or it could be some crazy fuse.
