So I've got a 2012 Camaro 2SS with around 8k miles on the clock, it's got the original tires still on it. They were great tires at one point, but at this point they feel very slippery in the rare instance that I do drive it. I'm buying new tires this spring so that it is safer to drive on roads, and so that I can have improved traction, but hey, these tires still got a lot of tread on them.
So my question is, will doing a burnout in these old tires blow them out? They hold air fine. Just figured I may as well get a bit more use out of them since they will basically become a wall ornament at this point. I just don't want the tires to blow up and then have the car get damaged, it is mint. Appreciate any help, thanks.

You might not want to do burnouts on old tires. The rubber is hard and brittle. Doing burnouts massively increases the risk of your tires blowing out and damaging the car in the process. It's also extremely bad for your transmission if you have an automatic.
Playing around with old dry-rotted tires is a dangerous game.

You would not necessarily have to be doing a burnout for those old tires to experience a blowout, but burnouts would certainly increase the likelihood. And when they do.... goodbye "mint" condition.

Eventually.
Please do this far away from people and property.

Appreciate the great answers everyone. A little burnout is definitely not worth the risk of ruining the car for me, was just curious since they do have the good tread and no dry-rotting (I applied tire protectant and maintained pressure). Looks like some Pilot Sport 4's will be in my shopping cart this spring.
Thanks for the update.👍
