I have a 2009 Camry with the infamous 2AZ-FE engine in it. About 180,000 miles. It consumes oil, and has not had the TSB applied to it. Dealer says it is too late to apply that now.
I like the car and how it drives. I would like to keep it.
Questions:
1) If I keep the oil level up, what other related issues might I run into?
2) I think I heard that burning oil can kill the catalytic converter. Would an occasional use of a catalytic cleaner help avoid that problem?
3) The engine says that I should use 0W20 or 5W20 oil in it. I've been using the 0W20. If I switch to 5W20, might that help reduce the consumption a little bit?
1. Keeping the oil level up and changing it no more than every 5k miles will help you get the most life out of it.
2. It wouldn't hurt to use some cleaner now and then, but I wouldn't overdo it. You will probably see a little bit of reduced life out of the converters, but likely not dramatic.
3. It likely won't make a difference. Those weights are very close and I think you would be ok using either.
I agree with what Mod Man says.
