Hello Scotty,
Big fan in Quebec Canada, didn't know anything about cars, but now I do, since I've been watching your channel.
I've bought 9 months ago a Hyundai accent 2015 sedan with 16 000 klm, it has a 1.6 l, 4 cycl.engine.
I know you hate Hyundai cars but does this regular Hyundai Accent engine will last with good care ?
Thanks for a answer
Most cheap Hyundai-kia cars in North America are GDi engines mated to "iVT" (CVT) gearboxes.
If the engine in that accent is a 1.6L GDi engine - NO, these sadly don't last much.
If the engine is that accent is a 1.6L MPi engine - Yeah, if you maintain it correctly they can last.
But even with that being said, even the GDi can last about 200,000 km although it isn't really a guarantee. just replace your oil every 7,500-10,000 and I'd let it warm up a bit before driving.
Same with the transmissions, manuals and conventional automatics last, while CVTs and DCTs do not.
CVTs and DCTs can breakdown randomly and very prematurely, while on the AT just replace the oil every 30,000-50,000km.
I have owned an Accent, with an MPi AT powertrain.
it was alright - not great nor terrible.
Definitely not nearly as good as my other car, a Corolla, in terms of both longevity (quality on the Accent was mediocre and things did wear out, it did feel like an old worn car faster than I would like it to and at the same milage that my Corolla still does feel almost new) and in terms of how it drives and handles (drives very easily and feels quick, but doesn't have the same sturdy and balanced handling and suspension of a conventional automatic Corolla)
ALSO, watch out for the very high death rates and low crash test scores on that model - I wouldn't buy one if you can add a bit and get a Corolla in a similar condition. But quite honestly, it's not a bad car - there are just better ones out there.
If it has only 16000 km, then you have a long life left before it falls apart.
