I just recently got a 2006 chevy impala. Will it be a good car to just baby it till it falls apart to use to and from work.
I got it from a friend that I made that owns a few tow yards and gave it to me for around $200. It was in a wreck by the owner of it before it got towed (as driver side seatbelt was cut and passenger seatbelt was completely locked and looking at radiator and radiator fan had been written on with numbers for warranty purposes I assume.). All I really have to do to it was put a new thermostat on it and plastic seath around the wiring so I didn’t have to rewire it all. I did put a new oil pressure sensor on it but, every once in a while, while I’m driving the light will come on and it will go away within about 2-3 minutes. It only had 119,456 miles on it when I got it and now has a little over 121k miles on it now just to go to and from work and just to ride around every so often in it and the transmission in 1st gear is shifting a little hard but I just baby it until it goes in 2nd gear and doesn’t jerk at all. It has a 3.5l v6 engine in it. Just wondering if it will be a good car for now until I have enough money to get a better car and just drive this one until it can’t drive anymore. And my dad checked it out since he’s a mechanic for a major city police fleet. And he says that it was pretty decent of a car for being that old and with only 121k miles on it. He also said to baby it in between when it shifts from 1st to 2nd too. And there’s really no issues with it right now
As long as it passes inspection and is safe; starts, stops and goes you're into a car for very, very cheap. At $200 you're into it for not very much. If it lasts 1 yr. that's $16 per month and should it last longer that number decreases.
It passed smog with ease and runs and drives just fine other than what I mentioned about going from 1st to 2nd
Just wondering if it will be a good car for now until I have enough money to get a better car and just drive this one until it can’t drive anymore.
It’s $200 so you are not losing much, but it is a big gamble. How lucky are you feeling? Just make sure your commute to and from work and other places is not too far. Be sure to have a tow truck driver and a mechanic on speed dial as you may need it (hopefully not) more often than not.
Let us know how it turns out. Good luck!
My dad is a mechanic. And if need be my uncle has a flatbed trailer with a winch on it.
That’s good! Then you got nothing to lose.
