[Solved] Intermittent Starting Issue

Hello Scotty,

I have a 2007 Honda Accord with 120K miles, a 4 cylinder motor, and an automatic transmission. Sometimes it starts, and other times it doesn’t. When it fails to start, the engine will turn slowly as if the battery is nearly dead. If I crank it several consecutive times, it seems to get weaker as if I’m running out of juice. Then if I wait a minute or so, I can crank it and it will start right up. I had my battery replaced a month ago, but tested the battery anyway, and the battery is still good. The alternator seems to be working, as the car will not stop running after its been started, and it’s been able to keep the battery charged. My battery connections/terminals look good, with no corrosion. Other wiring appears to be good, with the insulation all in tact. At this point I’m really confused about what the issue may be. Any ideas?

Kind Regards,

PGleeson

It turned out to be the starter. Eventually it stopped turning and would make a single “click” when I turned the key. I saw another video that mentioned a starter will work intermittently before going out. I replaced it and we’re all back to normal. Thanks everyone!

While you turning the ignition switch, have someone hit the starter and see what happens.

Watch Scotty's videos about no start conditions. (find them in the FAQ)

With the car running, check your alternator output with a meter.

I solved a Problem like this once replacing a fuel pump ignition switch! Apparently They get hot in the summer and the soldering points melt. Easy fix! Hope this helps!
