I recently inherited my mother’s 2007 Toyota Camry SE with 68,000 miles with automatic transmission. It is in excellent condition but it was made in Kentucky.
I drive a 2003 Toyota Corolla S with a standard transmission and has 156,000 miles and in excellent condition. My Corolla was made in Japan.
Should I replace my daily driver Corolla with my mother’s Camry, knowing it was made in Kentucky instead of Japan.
Should I worry ?
Thank you 🙂
They still have to meet Toyotas' high standards of mfg. and I believe the components come from Japan, just assembled here.
They are, but the ones in Kentucky are not junk.
I wouldn't worry. The factories in Japan do an excellent job of putting cars together. The only difference really is how parts are sourced and from where and even then that's not even always the case. If I was in your situation I would keep both cars, mostly drive the higher mileage vehicle (because then you will keep miles off the more pristine vehicle and if you get in an accident at least it will be the older car) and hold on to the lower mile car for when the older car dies off.
Thank you so much for the clarification !
I do know the 2AZ-FE does burn oil but I’m always on point with my cars when it comes to maintenance.
I’ve been driving it for a month now and boy.... everything I’ve heard about the Camry is so true. The car is very very comfortable !
Extraordinary comfortable.
I though I was comfortable in my Corolla (which is), but the Camry is just a different type of comfort.
I had a '94 Camry that was made in Kentucky that I traded in 2011 with 485,000km's on it. Did not burn any oil and only changed brakes and rad. It never let me down
First off, my condolences on your loss. That is not an easy thing to go through (been through it myself).
The only thing I would worry about is that Camry being in the year range of the ones that may start burning a lot of oil. If it has the 2AZ-FE engine I'd see if it had been taken to the dealer during the fix window.
If possible, I would keep both of them. But if the Camry checks out as being solid without that oil burning problem Id probably keep it instead of the Corolla.
Thank you ☺️
I appreciate it !
I decided to keep both !
My Corolla is such in excellent condition and I love to drive stick shift !
I customized the Corolla to a point that it looks like a car from the movie Fast & Furious.
I wanna drive from Miami where I live to Tennessee just to show it to Scotty !
Good deal!!! I think you'll be pleased, and won't have to worry about car shopping for a long time 🙂 Scotty might get a kick out of that corolla!
I would not worry both are excellent. The only issue I see is the 2007 Camry will start burning oil like mad before 100k miles if it is a 4 cylinder.
I just watched Scotty's video on the Five Best Used Cars, and his #1 recommendation was the 2011 Camry. I looked up a few for sale online, and found a photo of the manufacturer's information sticker in the door jam. It says that the car was built in Kentucky. I thought from watching other Scotty videos that his opinion was that the best Toyotas were built in Japan. Now I'm a bit confused.
If it's in good condition and a mechanic says OK I wouldn't worry about it. Fit and finish might not be quite as good but that's about all.
