Looking to buy an H2 or H3 as a off road vehicle

I would like to buy an H2 or H3 hummer for something cheap to off road with.  I know they haven't made them in years but are they worth buying for 6 or 7k and what are the common problems I'd have to deal with?

doubt they'll be cheaper than a pickup. H2s and 3s were more of a status thing.

Get the H2 not the H3. Scotty might even have a video about it. H3 is a piece of….  But the H2 is decent.

Look elsewhere. They're a status thing, even with 200k miles they've gone for $10k+. The H2s are even more expensive. The H2 was actually a decent vehicle,  the H3s not so much. H3s were out for only around 4 or 5 years, before the Hummer brand was discontinued in 2009. Weaker transmissions, the typical GM electronics going haywire stuff.  The H3 was based on the Chevrolet Colorado, a midsized truck. The H2 was a heavily modified 3500 HD truck chassis mated with a 2500 HD frame. GM made higher quality vehicles using that chassis. It was meant for a heavy-duty truck.

I’m with @justin-shepherd and @kaizen that the H2 is better than the H3.  Not only was the H3 not well made, but they made a lot of compromises on things like storage space.  You’d be better off with a more conventional Cherokee or Grand Cherokee or Passport (or 4Runner, if you can find one) of the same era.

The H2 was not a good looking vehicle, but was good for what it was.  I remember I knew a great independent Mercedes Mechanic who drove one and said it was very reliable.  But they are getting real old by now.  Aren’t many left and very few in good condition.  You’ll need to be patient to find one in decent condition.

I always thought they were cool, but that gas mileage and excessive bulk was too much, haha. I remember wanting an H3 when I was getting outta of high school.

Try looking up the reviews on a place like edmunds and see what people who own it think.

When I see a vehicle like this, I fear the owner reviews might be somewhat skewed because they may have the rose colored eyeglasses syndrome. They want it so bad they overlook the issues.

The reviews appear quite good on the H2 and H3, again, I am skeptical.

As far as an off road vehicle, to me it is too big and wide. I guess it depends what type of off road you plan on doing.
