Hey Scotty, my name is Diante and I have been watching your channel for a while. I live in Garner, NC and came across a 2000 Lexus GS400 for $6,000 with 118,018 miles on it which I believe is a wonderful deal but can also be risky at the same time. It's located at Atlantic Auto Sales which is down the road from me. I've done my research and I know it the legendary 1UZ-FE 4.0L V8 and a great transmission. My last car was 2014 VW Passat SEL Premium with the 1.8T TSI engine. Do you think I should get the Lexus or look for something else ? I would appreciate it if u put this question in your next video
Did you read the Carfax report for this vehicle which is included on the Atlantic Auto Sales website?
This Lexus seems to have been well maintained at the Lexus Dealership in Beverly Hills, California by the original owner but after being sold, the second owner moved to your area and it has been serviced by every Tom, Dick and Harry in the county. And I see no indication of the timing belt having been changed which at that age and mileage is a must as the 1UZ-FE engine is an interference engine and catastrophic internal engine damage (valves and pistons) will occur if the belt breaks. And I am sure that the timing belt replacement job is a big ticket item!
Moreover, as of 01/08/2019 this GS 400 was declared a TOTAL LOSS VEHICLE by the North Carolina Motor Vehicles Department in Wilmington with subsequent: Salvage Title/Certificate issued, Reconstructed Title issued and Rebuilt Title issued.
So you may want to leave this "wonderful deal" in your rear view mirror and "look for something else".
Avalon04 - Did you find that information on the Total Loss and Salvage Title/Certificate, Reconstructed Title on the Carfax report? If not, where did you find that information? That is crucial info!
@carnutty Yes. I went to the Atlantic Auto Sales website (where this GS400 is being sold), searched for this particular car and read the Carfax report included in the vehicle description. The total loss and salvage, etc information is in the Carfax report.
I would never buy a used V8 Lexus it's that old because their parts cost a lot and they turn into endless money pits. If it was a 6 cylinder Lexus I would probably buy it but not that model
